Since 1975, the founder of SuperScanSoft had involved intensively in data management of many government sectors. From then he applied various approaches and software to this tasks. A number of statisticians and more than 10 experienced programmers joined his team. In early 2003, two freelance programmers brought their 10-year experience of inventing an optical recognition technology and data management expertise to the team. They become partners and develop major software to solve common problems in this field. The software had successfully rescued many research projects, including two large national cohort studies of Thailand.
After two years of hard working for software development, they decided to establish a new company. The main aim is to develop tool to bring new standard of quality data entry to the information society. It is the SuperScanSoft which was founded in early 2005.

The old maxim "Garbage in, garbage out" advises us to pay attention to the quality of data. Poor quality data can either be useless or misleading. Some even say "useless is better than misleading" implying that better do nothing than doing things based on poor data. Erroneous data entered by users in free form data fields such as spreadsheet forms, web forms, or any other user interface screens is common. By this conventional method of data entry, acceptable accuracy rate is hardly achieved although using multiple pass manual data entry then comparing the results and fixing the discrepancies. Fixing these errors is also very expensive. For data service centers this often causes customers dissatisfaction. Also the intangible costs in helpfulness, lost of reputation, and customer service due to data errors is enormous. Most importantly, data quality is usually difficult and impractical to perform an assessment. The old saying, "If you can't measure it, you can't fix it" is true for this situation. Often, the bottle-neck can also be found in the processes and bring about many issues in storing and retrieval of the papers including inefficiently utilization of precious building space for systematic filing.

Optical recognition technology by scanning paper forms to obtain data and images file is a popular replacement for manual data entry because it is less expensive. However many people confused about this technology in two extreme ways. On the one way, people understand that it is only to obtain imagess of documents, i.e., pieces of paper converted into pixels in computer memory. This is of little value since, from this method, there is no data for further analysis. We usually termed this "document processing". The better way is that there is a good system to allow us to key the data from the imagess. The most preferable is that the system automatically captures data from the images and we termed this "form processing". On the other way, people understand that the data file obtained from optical recognition technology is error-free and thus no need to check before use. This is not true. There are many factors affecting accuracy performance of such recognition, e.g., forms design, hardware, quality of images, and hand writing style. Most of them are difficult to control in practice while maximum performance of this technology can be achieved only in highly controlled conditions. That is why many experienced users sadly refused to use this technology after a high investment. Major problems were that errors are not accurately flagged as suspicious and thus corrections are almost impossible to be made.
